I long for less

Yearn to be small

“Less is more”

To quote St. Paul

What better way to have less

Than starting with nothing at all

Let it grow on its own from within

Into something abundantly small

More filled with faith

Less anxious thought

“The poor in spirit”

Christ Jesus taught

What better way to be faithful

Than caring for that which is least

Let it be a humble beginning

Giving glory for modest increase

Be ye content

Shorten your DO list

“I must decrease”

Said John the Baptist

What better way to contentment

Than choosing the path that is small

Letting go of all of my something

Taking hold of God’s nothing at all

I choke on the notion

Of having it all

“More is loss”

So wrote St. Paul

A tiny thing, my seed so small

Planted by the All in All

Though I be least, there is a tree

Hidden by God inside of me
