Burned

I saw my bridge was burning

All my framework up in flame

My smoky outlook darkened

With no one but me to blame

I gazed upon my forest

Purged by the lightning and fire

The landscape scorched and blackened

I mourn my funeral pyre

I’ve been burned. I’ve been burned.

My proud dreams overturned

I’ve been burned. I’ve been burned.

Thank God I have been burned

I burned up like the phoenix

My ambitions all were dashed

Now I can start to grow again

Rising slowly from the ash

How is it, O Lord, that You

Never gave up on me

You have purged away my shame

And your flame has set me free

I’ve been burned. I’ve been burned.

My proud dreams overturned

I’ve been burned. I’ve been burned.

Thank God I have been burned

I was consumed, and then amazed

That grace could flow, out of my woe

And through the ash, I caught a flash

Of His glory, glory, glory
